Charlestown High School Debate League
The Charlestown Debate Team is one of the oldest and most successful clubs at Charlestown High School. The team welcomes debaters of any experience level: we have had successful debaters in the Novice, Junior Varsity, Varsity, and even National divisions. We practice after school on Thursdays from October to March and students attend up to 8 tournaments throughout the season where they compete against other Massachusetts schools.
Awards and accomplishments
In the last few years, our team members have won many individual awards. At the city and national levels, we have been recognized with the following:
* City Champions in 2019.
* National Urban Debate League National Qualifiers in 2020
* National Urban Debate League National Qualifiers in 2019
* National Urban Debate League National Qualifiers in 2017
* National Urban Debate League National Qualifiers in 2016
Debate will take you places
We have sent debaters to the Urban Debate National Tournament four of the last five years.
We consistently give debaters access to amazing summer opportunities, sending students to camps across the country including at the University of Texas, the Women's Debate Institute in Minnesota, and the Dartmouth Debate Institute.
Our alums attend top-tier colleges, including BU, Brandeis, Hamilton College, Centre College, Union COllege and UMass Amherst. All of our graduating seniors over the last three years have received significant scholarships and several earned full rides.
